Boston 2024, the private group organizing the bid to host a Summer Olympics, held a public meeting Wednesday night at Lowell City Hall.
Boston 2024 says most Olympic events would take place in Boston, but at least two would be in Lowell. Boxing at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell and rowing on the Merrimack River. Every resident who approached the microphone spoke in favor of this plan.
“Hi, my name’s Sam Antenacio. And a question I have is what are the avenues for the residents of Lowell to say, contribute, to gather and collaborate and get things going early on?”
“Good evening, everybody. My name is Sara Bogosian. I am so excited about this. I’ve been fortunate enough to be in Barcelona. I’ve seen the Olympics there. And I’ve seen what it's done to the waterfront there and I’ve seen what it’s done to the arts and cultural community there afterwards.”
The Lowell meeting was the first in a series of 20 regional meetings Boston 2024 is holding around the state. The next is March 18 at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.
