The case of Richard Sharpe drew a lot of attention when it came to light more than a decade ago. Sharpe was a wealthy, Harvard-educated dermatologist who lived on the north shore. In 2000, he was accused of killing his wife, Karen Sharpe, whose family mourned her very publicly, as Richard Sharpe’s trial unfolded.
And one of the most unique aspects of the case that drew even more public attention was Richard Sharpe’s fondness for dressing up as a woman.
Sharpe was convicted of his wife’s murder in 2001 and sentenced to life in prison. He was later tried and acquitted of charges of trying to hire a hit man to kill the prosecutor in his first trial. And he twice tried to commit suicide, ultimately succeeding in 2009.
Linda DiFruscio went through much of this at Sharpe’s side, as his friend. She’s since authored the book, "Cornered: Dr. Richard J. Sharpe as I knew him."
