One of the most exclusive clubs in the city became even more exclusive yesterday after the death of Tom Menino: the club of Boston mayors.

Today, there are only two: Mayor Marty Walsh and former Mayor Ray Flynn, who both joined Jim Braude and Margery Eagan on Boston Public Radio to reminisce about Menino.

"The best conversation we've ever had happened in the hospital last week, where I went over to visit him," Walsh said. "We talked about everything, from politics to personal life."

"It just showed you that, right until the end, he had his pulse on the city," Walsh continued.

Flynn, who admitted he and Menino had differences of opinions over the years, recalled a "good day" with him during their last visit.

"He said to me: 'Ray,' he says, 'soon'—he didn't tell me when, of course—'soon, you'll be the president of the Boston Mayors Alumni Association.' Of course, there were only two of us then. So I says, 'That means you're the president now, is that what this means? And I'm the vice president?'"

"I got a kick out of that," Flynn said.

Mayor Walsh joined Boston Public Radio for his monthly "Ask the Mayor" segment. Tune in to the rest of the segment above.
