Nearly a week after opening the time capsule that was discovered in the lion statue atop the Old State House, the capsule's contents have been revealed — and it's good news for newspaper nerds.
Newspapers and newspaper-related items abound: The capsule contained copies of The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The Boston Post, Banker and Tradesman and illustrations of mascots and ad rate sheets for the Globe and Herald.
The box also contained letters, a political button, a scroll and a medal, among other things.
Elizabeth Roscio, an archivist at The Bostonian Society, started cataloguing the contents — the condition of which she described as "remarkably good" — on Tuesday. Roscio credited the good condition of the artifacts to the tight seal on the capsule, which kept out air and water.
The Bostonian Society plans to put the capsule and its contents on display at the Old State House sometime soon.
