President Barack Obama was in Massachusetts Wednesday evening- first in Cambridge, then Boston. The president was not visible in Cambridge as he ducked into the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square to meet with 25 donors around 5 p.m. He then headed to a South Boston dinner with Artists for Humanity.
Both events were fundraisers for the Democratic Party, but he was also greeted with protests. In Harvard Square, Obama was greeted with cheers and calls for attention to Russia in the Ukraine.
Protester Alexander Subtelny stood amid bright blue and yellow Ukrainian flags in Harvard Square.
"America's standing in the world depends on the president stopping dictators from occupying parts of other countries," he said.
Nearby was Gerry Scoppettuolo of Malden.
“Demand more money for HIV prevention funding. We're very concerned about the epidemic."
The White House press pool reported that the president spoke about passing on hope for opportunity to future generations, raising the minimum wage, and getting Democrats to focus on mid-term elections. A total of about 100 people attended the two events. It’s unclear yet how much money the Democratic party raised, but attendees each donated between $5,000 and $32,000 dollars.
