The drummer for The Standells has died.

Dick Dodd died Friday after battling esophageal cancer, according to band keyboardist Larry Tamblyn. Dodd was 68.

Dodd sang lead on The Standells' biggest hit, "Dirty Water." He was a former Mouseketeer who was brought into the band so Tamblyn wouldn't have to handle all the singing duties.

Tamblyn writes on the band's Facebook page Dodd was able to weather the jokes about being a Mouseketeer, and he was "an incredible talent" and "a very kind and gentle person."

Tamblyn says Dodd died with drumsticks in his hands.
