Despite an energetic campaign, Boston City Councilor Mike Ross only captured about seven percent of the vote in the Boston mayoral preliminary election. Still, he told his supporters they should hold their heads up high at a restaurant in South Boston where they gathered to watch the poll results last night.

"We didn't go into this with the most money, or the biggest organization. We never had all the endorsements. What we did have were the best ideas, the most energy, and the best supporters of any campaign," he told his supporters.

Ross' ideas include creating more police substations in high crime areas, putting the Department of Neighborhood Development in charge of affordable housing policy oversight, and bringing back late night MBTA service.

Now that the campaign is over, Ross says the first thing he'll do is catch up on sleep. He campaigned for 25-hours straight before the polls opened Tuesday morning.

"I'm proud of the campaign we ran. We ran hard, we never let up.  Man did we run hard - I still haven't slept folks," he said to the crowd.

Ross gained attention during the campaign with a clever  television advertisement showing him handing out his ideas to people he passed while running through Boston neighborhoods.
