A fifth place finish in Boston's preliminary mayoral election put an end to the mayoral campaign of City Councilor Felix Arroyo.
But for the 34-year-old and the dozens of supporters who packed into a Jamaica Plain bar Tuesday night, the campaign is only a beginning.
"I love this city. I believe in this city. I believe in the people of Boston, and I know Boston agrees with us and what it could become. I don’t plan on going anywhere," he told his supporters.
Arroyo’s campaign trumpeted its energy and grassroots organization, but at the same time lacked the fundraising strength of other candidates.
Arroyo said he was proud of his grassroots over money approach. He congratulated top vote getters Martin Walsh and John Connolly – calling them both good options for the city of Boston.
As far as his own future, Arroyo didn’t give specifics, but jokes about his young age offered hints that he might not be done with politics just yet.
We’re gonna keep working to make Boston the city it can be. It has its flashes of greatness. It has its moments of real, true greatness," he said. "And I know that it’s possible to make those moments into permanent and longstanding. But it happens when we realize that not everybody’s Boston is the same. But that it can be, and it should be. And I don’t know if you heard, but I’m young."
