The false report of a gunman on the MIT campus last weekend was relayed by Internet relay — a messaging service that allows people with hearing and speech impairments to communicate via telephone — according to the Cambridge Police Department.
Cambridge Police said it received a message about a person with a gun in a building on the MIT campus Saturday morning. The Internet relay service was provided by Sprint, which relayed the message to the CPD.
Cambridge Police said the investigation was ongoing, and asked that anyone with information to call 617-349-3300, or by visiting CambridgePolice.org/Tips.
