The new year is not giving many people a sense of renewal as we are seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases, which has led to disruptions in travel plans, social gatherings and education, with many students and teachers not returning to schools.
Our economy is struggling, and inflation is on the rise as well, with over 4 million people quitting their jobs before the end of the 2021. In politics, Boston celebrated a historic election of Mayor Michelle Wu, yet nationally the battle continues over voting rights and President Joe Biden's infrastructure bill. It's been a year and a half since the murder of George Floyd, a racial reckoning which stopped the world, and made everyone watch and listen to issues of systemic racism.
How will these issues and challenges from the past year transform, and how will they impact communities of color in the year ahead? Joining our discussion are our guest panelists: Renee Graham, associate editor and opinion columnist for the Boston Globe; Rahsaan Hall, principal at Rahsaan Hall Consulting and former director for the racial justice program at the ACLU of Mass.; Phillip Martin, senior investigative reporter for the GBH News Center for Investigative Reporting News; and Malia Lazu, CEO and founder of The Lazu Group and lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
