In the premiere of its new season, GBH's Basic Black looks at Critical Race Theory. It began as a way to discuss how the legal system works. Later on, it became a framework to teach students about systemic racism — and a lightning rod for conservative attacks. As discussions continue, what happens to American history and is there a chance that African American history will be watered down or rewritten?
Host Callie Crossley is joined by Renee Graham, Associate Editor and Columnist for The Boston Globe’s op-ed page; Dr. Michael Jeffries, Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of American Studies at Wellesley College; Phillip Martin, Senior Investigative Reporter, GBH News Center for Investigative Reporting; and Deborah D. Douglas, Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Emancipator to discuss.
