GBH News has been honored with three New England Emmy Awards, recognizing outstanding work in local television news and video production. The awards are dedicated to fostering creative leadership in the television industry and encouraging excellence in artistic, educational, cultural, and technical progress.

In the Interview/Discussion Program, GBH’s weekly series Basic Black was cited for its special edition, "Standing Ground: The Killing Of George Floyd." The espisode originally aired on June 5, 2020. Host Callie Crossley welcomed guest panelists Renee Graham, Kim McLarin, Phillip Martin and Michael Jeffries, Ph.D. for a virtual discussion on the massive protests sparked by the murder of Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25, 2020.

The production team of Basic Black includes Delores Edwards (Executive Producer); Kavontae Smalls (Associate Producer); Robert Fagnant Jr. (Director); Bob Judge (Editor); and Angelica Marrero (Editor).

In the Writer, Longform Content category, GBH Executive Arts Editor and Host Jared Bowen was honored for his work on GBH's Open Studio With Jared Bowen, which takes viewers inside the creative process, offering a blend of profiles, performances, and contemporary exhibitions by artists in Greater Boston, New England, and across the country.

In the Video Essay category, GBH senior producer Greg Shea was recognized for his work as writer, producer, and director on The Great Ash Tree. The video essay tells the story of an iconic 80-foot tall American White Ash Tree that had stood for more than 200 years at the Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover, MA before being cut down last year out of safety concerns.
