Massachusetts officials announced this week that they plan to tell school districts to return to full in-person learning for elementary school students starting in April, with older students to follow suit soon after. Schools will be able to apply for waivers, and parents will have the option to keep their children in remote learning through the end of the school year. But the heads of the Mass Teachers' Association, Merrie Najimy, and Boston Teachers' Union, Jessica Tang, told Jim Braude the announcement came as a surprise and does not address key concerns educators have raised about equipping schools to mitigate spread of the virus.
