The Boston Red Sox have started to offer refunds, credits and exchanges for home games at Fenway Park scheduled between April 2 and May 28 that have been postponed because of the coronavirus.
Major League Baseball's season was put on hold before Opening Day as precautions surrounding the virus shut down sporting events and other large gatherings.
According to a Wednesday release from the team, fans who purchased tickets directly from the Red Sox can choose to get a full refund, receive a credit to their account that can be used in the 2020 or 2021 seasons or exchange tickets for a future game this season.
“As we continue to evaluate possibilities for the 2020 season, it’s important that we provide options to our ticket buyers for games scheduled in April and May,” said Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy in a statement. “We appreciate how patient our fans have been as we worked through the implications of the pandemic on our schedule. We extend our best wishes for the health and safety of the individuals and families in Red Sox Nation.”
Season ticket holders can either get a full refund for the impacted 2020 season games, credits for additional regular 2020 season tickets, or credits for games during the 2021 season.
The statement does not give any information about fans who purchased tickets from third-party vendors.
And although the deal includes exchanging tickets for future games this season, there's still no guarantee that baseball will return with fans in ballparks this year.
