You wouldn’t be blamed for thinking that the Boston area is always under construction. Well, prepare for more of it, courtesy of a Prudential Tunnel extension project starting this summer, which will then be followed by a 10-year major reconstruction of roadways in Allston — both of which will bring road closures and congestion along affected parts of the Mass Pike.
Officials say the work is needed not just for safety, but also to better design the area for the city’s long-term growth and to help reduce traffic in the future. Transportation advocates say that now is the time to properly prepare for the work, creating temporary roadways and ramps that can alleviate the growing pains when the construction begins.
