If last night's election results are any indication, the rules of the Democratic party may be changing. Gone appear to be the days when seniority ruled above all else and a progressive voting record was enough to keep a person in office in blue places like Massachusetts.
Last night, 20-year incumbent Congressman Michael Capuano — the 15th-most liberal member of the House, according to voteview.com — lost by a wide margin to Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley, who will become the first black woman ever to represent the state in Congress.
Does this signal a progressive wave come November? Or are all politics still local?
