A new food hall in downtown Boston called High Street Place will open its doors in the spring of 2019.

The project will unite 160 Federal St. and 100 High St., and is a a joint venture between the building's owner the Rockpoint Group and developer CANAdev. When finished the hall will be 18,471 sq ft, contain 400 seats, and will feature 22 local vendors, which will be announced this fall, a CANAdev spokesperson told the food blog EATER.

“It is fantastic news, the more food halls the better, said food critic and Senior Editor at The Atlantic, Corby Kummer, on Boston Public Radio Tuesday.

Kummer called these style of food halls the wave of the future for cities and hopes local vendors will be able to supply local food to an area of downtown he called a “food desert and gulch.”

“Having that kind of energy and options available in a place they have not been… is really exciting,” he said.
