Political commentator Sue O'Connell joined Boston Public Radio on Wednesday to speak about Naomi Seibt, a German teenager being embraced by climate skeptics.

"She is the anti-Greta Thunberg, and is being put forward by anti-climate change activists from Germany and by a number of conservative groups," O'Connell said. "She's telling us not to worry about climate change, that it's propagand, and it's not science-based."

Seibt is being praised by business people who are concerned that new climate regulations will affect their businesses, O'Connell said.

"[Seibt promoters] are focusing on Germany, because if Germany continues to work towards decreasing their carbon output, they're afraid that the rest of the world will follow Germany," she said. "This young woman is manufactured and I think she has been conjured up as a foil to Greta and it does a great disservice to scientists."

O'Connell is NECN's political commentator and explainer-in-chief, as well as a co-publisher of Bay Windows and the South End News.
