The position of First Lady in democratic countries is an admittedly odd one, simultaneously symbolic and yet also often given the ability to implement some sort of policy initiative. As Iceland’s First Lady Eliza Reid explained in a recent New York Times op-ed, it’s an "incredibly weird job."
