On Thursday, former Massachusetts Secretary of Education and Boston Public Radio contributor Paul Reville discussed the ongoing fallout at Harvard University following the arrest of chemistry chairman Charles M. Lieber.
“It has been apparent,” Reville said, "not just at [Harvard] but universities across the country, that the Chinese are engaged in very aggressive efforts to get as much as they can possibly get out of the university community, and for that matter the private sector.”
Lieber was arrested Monday by F.B.I officials on charges that he lied to authorities about his financial ties to the Chinese government and their Thousand Talents Program. Lieber previously denied, both to the F.B.I and to Harvard, that he was involved in the program that brings foreign-educated scientists to China.

Reville said he expects the university will eventually execute a harsh punishment on Lieber.
"Clearly he’s crossed the boundaries here,” he said.
Paul Reville is former state secretary of education and a professor at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, where he also runs the Education Redesign Lab. His latest book is "Broader, Bolder, Better.”
