Some Danvers residents are calling on the school’s superintendent to step down following her handling of disturbing accusations of racism, hazing and assault on the high school’s varsity boys hockey team during the 2019-2020 season.

Recent Danvers grad and former school committee student representative Maximilian Leete and interim Director of Athletics and Recreation at Dartmouth College Peter Roby joined Jim Braude on Greater Boston to discuss.

Roby called attention to the parents, coaches and school staff. “What role are adults playing in promoting it?” he asked. “Each of these young people who may have been accused of these things are children of parents and I’m wondering what the conversations are like at the dining room table… are they leading by example?”

There has been no accountability yet, Leete said, noting that the school historically brushed problems under the rug. He called it “preposterous” that administrators and coaches have said they have no knowledge of the incidents.

Leete said he thinks it's "dangerous for high school boys, especially white boys, to have a level of infallibility where they believe they can do anything they want."
