This Memorial Day weekend marks the return of Boston Calling for the first time since 2019. Started in 2013, Boston Calling regularly brings nationally and internationally touring acts to town. The music festival is hosted at Harvard Athletic Complex, featuring three days of concerts and local food vendors.
This year’s lineup, performing between Friday, May 27, and Sunday, May 29, includes big names alongside up-and-coming artists. GBH will be at the festival, providing coverage and live updates on our GBH News social media pages. Before Boston Calling kicks off, we’re also featuring interviews with a number of the local talents from right here in Greater Boston who will be hitting the stage alongside major acts like HAIM, Avril Lavigne and The Strokes.
One of the local artists performing this year is musician Julie Rhodes, who was born and raised in Woburn. She will bring her repertoire of soul-infused Americana to the stage on Saturday, May 28, alongside her band, The Electric Company. We talked to Rhodes at a recent event at Belmont High School. There, she took the time to perform and speak with students in the school’s modern band class, taught by Arto Asadorrian. She spoke about her experiences in the music industry, then wrapped up her appearance by surprising students with Saturday passes to Boston Calling, courtesy of the festival. Rhodes says she’s “excited to [...] hopefully just share a beautiful moment” with audiences, especially at a festival like Boston Calling which is “really a big deal” for herself and other local artists.
