This Memorial Day weekend, the Boston Calling music festival makes its return to Harvard Athletic Complex for the first time since 2019. Started in 2013, Boston Calling regularly brings nationally and internationally touring acts to the commonwealth for three days of live concerts.
Ahead of Boston Calling, GBH News is featuring interviews with a number of the local talents from right here in Greater Boston who will be hitting the stage alongside acts like Metallica, HAIM and The Strokes.
Among the local names on the roster is Miranda Rae, a Boston-based musician who draws inspiration from Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Adele. GBH News caught up with Rae at her April 14 Boston Calling Night performance to talk about the festival, her writing process and more.
Rae, who describes her music as “R&B, but more on the neo-soul side,” is particularly excited to make her festival debut at Boston Calling. She said the event will be an opportunity to grow artists’ platforms after years away from the stage.
For artists like Rae who “move with the intention of ... getting closer and closer to where [they] want to be,” the show is a big step forward toward becoming household names.
