On the latest episode of Open Studio with Jared Bowen, we explore the MFA's new "Art of Ancient Greece, Rome, and the Byzantine Empire" exhibit. Bowen also discusses theater and teaching within the Boston Public School system through a one-man play.
Boston's Museum of Fine Arts has unveiled its new exhibit, "Art of Ancient Greece, Rome, and the Byzantine Empire," which encompasses five new galleries, along with existing spaces, to tell fresh stories about ancient art. The MFA has also implemented state of the art technology to uncover faded pigments of its many marble statues — now white — to show what they may have looked like when they were first created.
Jared then sits down with Maurice Parent and Melinda Lopez to discuss their new play Mr. Parent. The one-man show tells the story of Maurice Parent's tenure as an arts teacher within the Boston Public School system. The production explores the dynamics of teaching in an underfunded environment and how Parent wrestled with his decision to leave the classroom to pursue his creative passions. The show is on through Feb. 6, 2022.
