On Thursday, ESPN's Howard Bryant joined Boston Public Radio to discuss his latest book, “Full Dissidence: Notes From an Uneven Playing Field.”
The book, which is comprised of nine essays, reflects on Black American identity and his experience going to school in predominantly white communities.

The Boston native and former "Boston Herald" writer explained to Jim and Margery that the impetus for writing “Full Dissidence” was, partly, a reaction to the events of 2016.
“In 2016… you’re looking at this combination of Kaepernick and Ferguson and the election and all of this stuff that was taking place, it just struck me as a demarcating line,” Bryant said. "And I started thinking about it myself. … How many times are you on Facebook with your friends, or talking, and you realize that you don’t talk a lot about politics and you don’t talk a lot about life, and you don’t talk about all these things — these friends that you’ve had your whole lives?”
