Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is hosting a summit Thursday on strategies for stopping gun violence in the city, and he spoke to Morning Edition about the event.

Walsh also spoke about several other issues, including the trial of four members of the Boston-based Teamsters Local 25 union, charged with conspiracy to extort the reality TV show "Top Chef." On this topic, the mayor said he’d rather not comment, so as not to influence the trial's outcome.

The mayor also addressed swirling political speculation that his chief of staff Dan Koh may be a candidate for the third district congressional seat being vacated by Representative Niki Tsongas. Tsongas announced Wednesday that she won’t be seeking another term.

“If Dan runs for congress, I’m going to be supportive 100 percent for him," said Walsh. "He’d be a great congressman for the third congressional district.”
