12:11pm: Geoffrey Kirui wins the men's Boston Marathon race.

11:57am: We have a winner: Edna Kiplagat from Kenya just crossed the finish line. Her unofficial time is just under 2 hours and 22 minutes.

11:40am: Our photographer Meredith Nierman caught a symbolic moment about two hours into the race. Bobbi Gibb and Dave McKenzie won the marathon 50 years ago. Gibb's win wasn't official as she wasn't allowed official entry into the race.

11:15am: Wave four takes off.

10:38am: Marcel Hug wins his third straight Men's Wheelchair Race, setting a new course record with a time of 1:18:04.

10:00am: The Elite Men and Wave One runners take off!
9:32am: Before taking off herself, Kathrine Switzer fires off the gun to start the Elite Women's race.
9:25am: Fifty years after her groundbreaking run, Kathrine Switzer is again making the trip from Hopkinton to Boylston Street at the age of 70. Her run in 1967 was groundbreaking because she was able to get a bib and run officially. The year before, Bobbi Gibb completed the marathon but didn't have a number.
9:19am: Women's Push-Rim Wheelchair race begins.
9:17am: Men's Push-Rim Wheelchair race begins.
8:50am: And they're off!
8:32am: The participants have been waiting to get started for a while. About two hours ago they began boarding buses for the starting line. The Boston Athletic Association, the organization behind the marathon, captured some footage.

8:30am: It's about 64 degrees in Hopkinton right now as the competitors wait for the gun to go off. That's warm for a marathon, and it's only going to get warmer. The first wave will be mobility impaired runners. They'll start at 8:50. Next, will be the elite women runners, who will kick off the race at 9:32. The elite men start at 10.
