A friend says of the three people who died in a shooting at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic was an Iraq War veteran who had recently left the military.

Amburh Butler, who spoke on behalf of 29-year-old Ke'Arre Stewart's family, says he was accompanying someone at the clinic when he was killed. She says he leaves behind two young daughters in Texas, where he grew up.

Butler says the Army stationed Ke'Arre at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs in 2013. She says he was discharged from the military last year.

She says he used to write her letters from Iraq that detailed the horrors of fighting on the front lines. She last spoke to him on Thursday, when he sounded upbeat to be spending Thanksgiving with friends.

Former figure skating champion Nancy Kerrigan remembers the Colorado police officer who was killed in a shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic as loyal, caring and a true friend.

She told media outlets that Garrett Swasey was "one of my best friends" as they grew up together practicing figure skating in Melrose, Massachusetts. Before he became a police officer, Swasey was a junior national couples ice dancing champion.

An emotional Kerrigan says she wasn't surprised he took a career path where he helped others first. She says he always had fun and did everything with a smile.

Swasey's father has told the Boston Globe that his son moved to Colorado in the 1980s to pursue competitive figure skating and became an officer six years ago.

The father of a Colorado Springs woman says she was accompanying a friend to a Planned Parenthood clinic when she was killed in a shooting rampage.

John Ah-King, who told The Denver Post that his daughter 36-year-old Jennifer Markovsky, was one of three people who died Friday when a gunman opened fire. He described Markovsky as a kind-hearted, lovable person with two children.

Also killed in the shootout was 44-year-old University of Colorado police officer Garrett Swasey. The Associated Press has not yet confirmed the identity of the third victim.

Colorado Springs police say they will not disclose why a gunman opened fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic, killing three people.

Police say in a statement Sunday that they are sealing the warrants related to the case against 57-year-old Robert Lewis Dear. They say they are not providing information on the weapon used in Friday's shooting, a timeline of events or a motive of the suspect.

That will continue to stoke speculation about what led to the shooting that killed a police officer and two other people. Dear is scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.

The University of Colorado police officer who died in a shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic has been remembered with laughs and cheers at the church where he was a co-pastor.

Parishioners at the nondenominational Hope Chapel remembered 44-year-old Garrett Swasey on Sunday as a trusted partner in prayer and a champion athlete.

The officer at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, was one of three people killed Friday when a gunman opened fire at a nearby Planned Parenthood.

Swasey's widow, Rachel Swasey, said in a statement Sunday that "his last act was for the safety and well-being of others." She says the family will cherish memories of him tossing the football with his son and snuggling with his daughter.

The community also honored Garrett Swasey at two vigils Saturday.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper says the two civilian victims killed in the shooting at a Planned Parenthood were a man and a woman.

Three people, including a police officer, died Friday when a gunman opened fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs.

Hickenlooper told CNN on Sunday that he thinks the additional victims are a man and a woman, but he didn't elaborate. The two have not been identified.

The only victim named so far is Garrett Swasey, a 44-year-old officer at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

 

Police say 57-year-old Robert Lewis Dear attacked the clinic. He is in custody and is expected to make his first court appearance Monday.

The father of the police officer killed in the Colorado Planned Parenthood shooting says his son loved figure skating, was a great dad and was loved by all in his department.

David Swasey tells The Boston Globe that his son, Garrett, moved to Colorado from Massachusetts in the 1980s to pursue figure skating and won a national championship in the junior ranks.

Forty-four-year-old Garrett Swasey was the first of three victims to be identified in the shootings at the clinic in Colorado Springs. Married with two children, Swasey worked as a police officer at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

Swasey was originally from Melrose, where Police Chief Michael Lyle said he dedicated much of his life to helping others.
