The new Pawtucket Red Sox owners say they'd consider buying the state land where they want to build a new ballpark in downtown Providence.
The letter Saturday to Gov. Gina Raimondo, principal owner James Skeffington also says he and Boston Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino, managing partners of the PawSox, want to meet with her soon. A spokesman for Raimondo tells The Providence Journal she's interested in meeting.
The proposed ballpark for the Triple-A Red Sox affiliate would sit on former highway land owned by the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission, which plans a public meeting Monday with state officials.
The PawSox owners say the ballpark would generate $12.3 million annually for the city and the state. They have proposed leasing the land, and said they'd seek about $120 million in public aid over 30 years.
