Poet Leanne O'Sullivan visited our WGBH Studios in Boston, and talked about her work.
Born in 1983, O'Sullivan comes from the Beara Peninsula in West Cork. Beara (shown on the map above) is one of my own favorite parts of Ireland and I regularly visit there.
The poem we include of O'Sullivan's in this segment of Words and Music is about a time in Ireland when the Irish Republican Army were fighting a guerrilla war against the occupying British in 1921. Ununiformed, and always on the run, they depended on "safe houses" often with tragic consequences.
"Safe House," by Leanne O'Sullivan, is from her collection " Cailleach the Hag of Beara,"released by Bloodaxe Books.
Music is by Winifred Horan, yet to be released.
