At the height of the Cold War, Sen. Joseph McCarthy rose to power by stoking fears, declaring his opponents "enemies of the state,” and overwhelming the press and the public with lies. His hunt for communists consisted of largely baseless claims that derailed the lives of those he accused, prompting historic condemnation, including from the Army's then-chief counsel, Joseph Welch. McCarthy's rise and fall is now the focus of a new American Experience episode called, “McCarthy: Power Feeds on Fear.”

Jim Braude was joined by Sharon Grimberg, the film’s producer.
