OK, so I’m a sports fan. But I’m not from here and so — full disclosure here — my teams are not Boston teams.

Well, for those of us who grew up outside of this area, and for many of you who grew up here, there is one guy who has been the face and voice of Boston sports: Bob Ryan.

With national appearances on ESPN, his work on local TV and radio and his column in the Boston Globe, Bob Ryan has — for decades — been the one guy you wanted to hear from when a big sports story happened here. The great Celtics/Lakers battles of the '80s. The rise of Brady and the Pats. The Sox ending the curse in ‘04.

Now, after more than 40 years at the Globe, Bob Ryan will be telling those stories a little less often as he retires and enters what he’s been calling the next phase of his career. He joins me to tell some tales from that storied career.
