The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston provided an impressive backdrop for the unveiling of STL GLD’s new hip hop album The New Normal on Jan. 10, 2019.
The band surprised audience members to an exclusive listening party, using silent wireless headphones to allow everyone to experience the complete album surrounded by some of the MFA’s most high-profile works of American art. For audience members, the hip hop tracks were a welcome addition to the museum’s galleries.
The album was inspired by the current political climate, with lyrics that meditate on an array of political and social issues with a message of hope and optimism.
“We are funneling all that negative energy into positivity,” said band member Moe Pope. “Thanks to the Museum of Fine Arts for opening its doors to a Roxbury kid who truly believes hip hop music is art of the highest form."
STL GLD is a Boston-based group known for captivating live performances that push the boundaries of their genre by infusing it with rock, punk, and orchestra. They were named "Live Artist of the Year” at the 2018 Boston Music Awards and named “Boston’s Best Band” by Improper Bostonian.
The New Normal will be available for purchase on February 1.
