Working with a nationally recognized team of experts, NCAM researched the effectiveness of extended and enhanced audio description, specifically designed to improve the educational impact of curriculum materials for children who are blind and visually impaired. The project developed a methodology for creating e-descriptions that include key visual information and cues to enhance meaning, context and learning. Project results can apply to video, graphics, animation and illustrations and may be delivered via audiotapes, a Web-based server or digital television. NCAM is currently applying lessons learned through this project to Teachers' Domain, a K-12 library of rich-media science resources drawn from WGBH programming.
