GBH News’ “The Big Dig” podcast will present a special episode, “Two Planes are Off the Radar”
BOSTON, Mass. (Sept. 3, 2026) — GBH, the leading multiplatform creator of public media in the U.S., today announced a suite of educational tools and original content dedicated to marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Anchoring the initiative is a new collection of free digital classroom resources from PBS LearningMedia, developed in partnership with the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund, that bring together archival video, firsthand accounts, and primary sources to help educators explore the events of September 11, their impact on individuals and communities, and their broader historical context and legacy.
Part of the award-winning U.S. History Collection on PBS LearningMedia, the new resources are designed to help educators teach the complex history, human and global impact, and continuing legacy of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with sensitivity and historical depth.
“Twenty-five years later, a new generation of teachers and students are encountering the history of September 11 for the first time,” said Seeta Pai, Vice President of Children’s Media and Education at GBH. “Our role is to give educators trusted, thoughtfully developed resources that help students engage with this history in ways that are informed, meaningful, and appropriate for their classrooms.”
“We are proud to partner with GBH Education to tell the unique role that Massachusetts played on 9/11 to today’s students who were not alive on that tragic day 25 years ago,” said Pat Bavis, Education Chair at the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund. “GBH Education has created an engaging, thoughtful and rich education resource for more than 17 million students and teachers across the nation. This helps fulfill the Fund’s mission to ensure the memories and legacies of our loved ones are not lost to history.”
In addition to these core educational materials, GBH is featuring a multiplatform lineup of original content, special coverage, and social media features, alongside a dedicated YouTube playlist, Remembering 9/11 25 Years Later. Offerings include new original programs and rebroadcasts from NOVA, FRONTLINE, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, ARTHUR, and Stories from the Stage.
GBH News will provide local reporting and “The Big Dig” podcast will present a special episode, “Two Planes are Off the Radar,” examining how the attacks unfolded at Logan Airport and permanently reshaped the modern airport experience.
Additionally, The World will broadcast a live one-hour radio special from New York City on the tragedy’s global aftermath, while the American Archive of Public Broadcasting offers nationwide public media coverage through its 9/11 Special Coverage Collection.
Together, these initiatives reflect GBH’s ongoing commitment to delivering public media that illuminates history, engages communities, and supports lifelong learning.
