Boston, Mass. ( Mar. 5, 2025) - Martha Minow , the 300th Anniversary University Professor at Harvard University and former Morgan and Helen Chu Dean and Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, has been elected Chair of the Board of Trustees for Boston public media producer GBH. At the March 4 meeting the board also elected Mathai Mammen and Karen Hawley Miles as trustees.

“It is my honor to welcome Martha Minow as GBH’s new Chair of the Board of Trustees,” said Susan Goldberg, President and CEO of GBH. “Martha is one of our nation’s brightest minds in the field of law, and has been lauded for her dedication to fostering progress and discourse across many causes, from media, to constitutional law, to international conflict. We look forward to Martha’s leadership as we work together to continue GBH’s reputation as one of the nation’s most trusted producers of public media, and we thank Ann Fudge for her years of steadfast service to GBH.”

Minow, who joined the GBH Board of Trustees in 2018, succeeds Fudge, who is stepping down after 10 years of service on the board, including one year as Vice Chair and the past six years as Chair. She will become Chair Emerita.

“It has been my deep honor to be involved with this organization over so many years,” said Fudge. “Especially at this pivotal time, Martha’s experience and expertise will be invaluable in helping GBH further its mission to inform and educate across communities.”

In addition to her roles at Harvard University, where she has taught since 1981, Minow‘s scholarship has addressed artificial intelligence and law, media regulation, transitional justice, freedoms of speech and religion, and human rights, with a focus on members of minority groups, children, and persons with disabilities. She has authored several publications.

Following nomination by President Barack Obama and confirmation by the Senate, she served for ten years as vice-chair of the board of the Legal Services Corporation. She presently chairs the board of directors of the MacArthur Foundation and serves on the board of the Carnegie Corporation and other nonprofit organizations. She served previously on the board of directors of the CBS Corporation, and as a law clerk to Judge David Bazelon and Justice Thurgood Marshall. Her awards include the Sacks-Freund Teaching Award, the Holocaust Center Award, the Radcliffe Graduate Society Medal, Trinity College History Society Gold Medal, and ten honorary doctoral degrees.

“GBH has served audiences across New England and around the world with its constant dedication to highest quality journalism, meaningful education, and continual innovation,” said Minow. “I am eager to collaborate with the extraordinary teams on staff, the board, donors, and members of the larger community as we steward this invaluable resource for news, learning, entertainment, and connection.”

The two new trustees on GBH’s board join with extensive experience in the fields of medicine and education, respectively. Mathai Mammen the CEO, President, and Chairman of Parabilis Medicines, is a world-renowned innovator in drug discovery, development, and team and company building. Dr. Karen Hawley Miles is Founder and CEO of Education Resource Strategies (ERS), a nonprofit organization based in Watertown, Mass., that works with school districts nationwide that serve students furthest from opportunity to accelerate learning.
