Boston, MA (November 14, 2023) - After a successful Super Sunday qualifying event, High School Quiz Show®, GBH’s Emmy-award winning academic tournament for Massachusetts high schools, has announced the 17 teams that will compete for the title of Season 15 State Champion.

Cambridge’s Buckingham Browne & Nichols School will return to defend their title, earned in the Season 14 final versus Mansfield High School, which also returns for Season 15. The bracket includes season 5 champion Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, season 9 champion Andover High School, Lexington High School, which won in seasons 7 and 8, and North Quincy High School, who won in seasons 4 and 13. For the first time, Boston College High School, Maynard High School, Roxbury Latin School, and St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury are part of the bracket.

“We are thrilled to celebrate 15 seasons of High School Quiz Show with an exceptional roster of teams,” said GBH Executive Producer Hillary Wells. “Some schools participated on the show in the past and others are beginning their High School Quiz Show journeys now. Whether new or experienced, the High School Quiz Show stage provides an equal playing field for these teams to showcase their academic talents and I am eager to watch this season’s students and coaches reap the rewards of their hard work and dedication.”

The bracket is determined by the schools receiving the highest scores at High School Quiz Show’s Super Sunday qualifying event on November 5. Fifty-four high school teams from across the Commonwealth completed a written quiz at GBH’s studios in Brighton with GBH sister station New England Public Media inviting four western Massachusetts teams to take the quiz at their Springfield location. In total, 58 Massachusetts teams competed for a spot in the televised tournament. More than 300 students from across the Commonwealth participated in this season’s Super Sunday event.

The 15 teams with the highest scores from Super Sunday automatically qualified for a spot in the competition bracket. The 16th and final spot on the bracket will go to the winner of the Wild Card match between Maynard High School and St. John’s High School. The annual Wild Card match features two teams representing high-scoring schools from Super Sunday that have not previously been on the show or have not competed in five or more years.

Throughout the 16-round competition, teams of four students will go head-to-head with winners advancing to the following round until the top two teams compete in the championship showdown for the title of State Champion. Season 15 of High School Quiz Show will premiere on GBH 2 and the High School Quiz Show YouTube channel on Saturday, February 3 at 6pm ET.
