The Illustrative Mathematics Collection on PBS LearningMedia came about through the collaboration of multiple organizations, including GBH, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, Illustrative Mathematics, Open Up Resources and numerous others. When first published, the collection served a critical need for at-home-learning materials in the COVID-19 pandemic and each episode was aired on broadcast TV as well as through PBS LearningMedia. Today, the collection continues to serve educators and students on PBS LearningMedia.
Each video features an educator guiding the viewer through a lesson from the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum for grades 6, 7, and 8, as well as Algebra 1. Each video lesson is accompanied by a printable activity, and a set of cumulative practice problems from the curriculum in both English and Spanish. Designed for students to follow along, the videos incorporate timed breaks and pauses for students to gather materials or respond to prompts in their activity handouts.
