Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.
Today’s mural features a ceramic piece by Elizabeth Craig-McCormack. Inspired by Minoan marine art, the artwork depicts a bemused octopus floating in a bed of seaweed with minnows swimming in opposite directions.
“I used paper resist and sgraffito techniques with various glazes and slip to decorate the hand-built red earthenware platter,” Craig-McCormack says. “Much of my work emphasizes folkloric animal themes that reference my Mexican ancestry.”
Craig-McCormack is an amateur pottery artist and lifelong doodler.
