Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.
Today’s mural is a photorealistic cityscape collage by Betsy Silverman. Her technique combines a broad training in visual art with an ecological consciousness that inspired her to use recycled materials.
The process involves a painstaking search through stacks upon stacks of recycled magazines in order to find pieces of paper that exhibit the gradations of color, hue, and intensity required for her representational demands.
Silverman is a collage artist in the Boston area. She graduated from Cornell and earned a master’s degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.
