Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.

Today’s mural The Bleeding Sea by Adriana G. Prat reflects on the brutality of human-made environmental disruption. Prat interweaves elements from maps, ocean and land geographies, and topographies as reminders of what needs to be saved under the pressures of exploitation and climate change.

“This painting is reminiscent of a sea topography and its biodiversity affected by plastic pollution, high temperatures, and ecosystem degradation,” Prat says. “Red and black symbolize contamination, affecting the otherwise blue, healthy ocean.”

Prat is a scientist, artist, curator, and environmental activist. Her work has been exhibited in the U.S., Argentina, Iceland, and U.K. She is the founder of the i3C (inspiring Change for the Climate Crisis) Artists Collective and a juried member of the National Association of Women Artists.
