Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.

Today’s Mural Floating Man by Alex Cook is comprised of an intricate pattern of colors and repeated shapes that exist apart from the image presented. The figure is perceived through color changes in the concentric diamonds.

“From one perspective, the image is about a floating figure, perhaps lost, uncertain, in transition. Or maybe he is resigned, at peace, waiting,” Cook says. “The picture is an intense experiment, creating countless relationships between colors, contrasts, foreground, and background. When they come together, it is a powerful invitation to wonder.”

Cook is a multi-disciplinary artist in Boston. Since 1997, he has created over 240 murals in 22 states and 6 countries. In 2014, he launched the YOU ARE LOVED Mural Project.
