Community Canvas is an initiative presented by The Culture Show where GBH features artwork from community members on our Digital Mural.
Today’s mural is titled The Norns That Live Inside Us by Rabkwan Chaimattayompol. Her painting is deeply inspired by the Norns of Greek mythology.
“In my portrait, the figure on the right represents my mother, the center figure is her younger self, and the left figure is me today,” Chaimattayompol says. “As children, we are nurtured by our mothers, but as we grow older, we begin to care for them in return. Growing up with my immigrant mother, I witnessed the fears and hardships she faced while finding her identity in America.”
Chaimattayompol is a second-generation Chinese Thai American. Her art glimpses at the past through a cultural and familial lens.
