Today, Americans honor the service, accomplishments, and sacrifices of all veterans of the United States military.

It was originally known as Armistice Day, to mark the anniversary of the formal end of major hostilities of World War l at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. World War ll veteran Raymond Weeks led the movement to expand the holiday to include all veterans, and since 1954, it has been known as Veterans Day.
