Temple Emanuel is a Conservative, fully egalitarian congregation in Newton, Massachusetts founded in 1935. Our membership of 1,100+ families includes Jews of diverse backgrounds from Newton and surrounding communities who enjoy a broad spectrum of religious, cultural, social and educational activities within the context of a warm and welcoming sacred community. Members come together to pray, learn, share life cycle events and educate our children. We are committed to lifelong learning, a love of Israel, building community and redeeming the world through acts of social justice. The synagogue supports and fosters an active intellectual life that engages members and offers numerous diverse programs, classes and events to appeal to a broad spectrum of interests. Temple Emanuel has a strong Religious School (kindergarten through grade 5), an active music life including adult and children’s choirs and a teen band as well as a variety of cantorial, choral, and chamber music concerts open to the community, and offers an active adult learning program incorporating both religious and secular learning. In addition, it offers a number of social programs that engage our members, and supports the surrounding community through a wide range of collaborative social action activities. In pursuing its sacred purposes, Temple Emanuel offers the best of big and small: the resources that allow for choices, and the communities of shared passion that allow for intimacy.
