PRX Podcast Garage

PRX, the award winning public media company and founder of Radiotopia, opened the Podcast Garage in August 2016 in Allston, to support the work of local audio and storytelling enthusiasts. Our facilities feature a four-person studio with state of the art recording and mixing equipment, a solo-iso booth, and creative co-working and presentation space for audio producers in the New England area. Event programming features a diverse range of media arts training, skill-building workshops, networking opportunities and mentoring sessions. The Podcast Garage is a program of Zone 3, a Harvard-sparked initiative to explore experimental programs, events, and retail along Western Ave. More information about Zone 3 can be found at www.Zone3WesternAve.com.

  • Five Things invites some of today’s most talented and successful producers, artists, writers and thinkers to share five things – audio, visuals, books, objects or something else entirely – that have shaped their creative practice over time. Or that inform how they approach their work now. Or, simply enough, that they dig, and want to share with you. Five Things is an ongoing series at the Podcast Garage hosted by Radiotopia's Julie Shapiro. We're joined this month by Al Letson, host of the award-winning podcast Reveal.

  • A good audio story should transport listeners, and often that means using sound and writing to convincingly bring them to a place. Reporter Craig LeMoult of WGBH News teaches us how to record sound that will convey the scene, how to write a script that puts the listener in the middle of the action, and how to mix a story that brings it all together in a memorable way.
