Veteran journalist Jack Newfield, who authored *Robert Kennedy: A Memoir* and *Newsweek*'s Evan Thomas, who wrote *Robert Kennedy: His Life*, discuss the life and legacy of Robert F. Kennedy. CNN's Jeff Greenfield, a former speechwriter for Robert F. Kennedy, moderates.

Jack Newfield pioneered a new kind of investigative journalism -- a passionate advocacy of social causes and political reforms backed up by relentless digging for the facts. He began in the 60's as a columnist for *the Village Voice*. He left after 24 years and continued his investigative reporting successively for *the New York Daily News*, *the New York Post*, *the New York Sun* and *The Nation* magazine. He was a fellow of the Nation Institute. Jack was the author of 10 books and collaborated on numerous documentaries. He received the George Polk Award for Investigative Journalism in 1990, an Emmy for his documentary on Don King in 1991, and numerous other awards. Jack Newfield died on December 21st, 2004.

Evan Thomas was made Editor at Large of *Newsweek* in September of 2006. He is the magazine's lead writer on major news stories and the author of many longer features, including *Newsweek*'s special behind-the-scenes issues on presidential elections, and more than a hundred cover stories. Thomas was pivotal in spearheading *Newsweek*'s award-winning coverage on the war on terror from the Washington, D.C. bureau. His reporting and writing on the terror events of September 11 and the Iraq War contributed to *Newsweek*'s being honored with the most prestigious awards in the magazine industry-the National Magazine Award for General Excellence for 2002 and 2004. Since 1992, Thomas has been a regular weekly panelist on the syndicated public affairs talk show, *Inside Washington*. He has appeared on numerous television shows as a commentator, including: NBC's *Meet the Press*, *TODAY*, CBS's *Face the Nation*, ABC's *Nightline*, *Good Morning America*, CNN's *Larry King Live*, PBS's *Charlie Rose*, and *The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer*. Thomas is also the author of six books, all published by Simon & Schuster: *Sea of Thunder*, about the war in the Pacific (2006), a *New York Times* bestseller; *John Paul Jones*, a biography of the American revolutionary (2003), a *New York Times* bestseller; *Robert Kennedy: His Life* (2000); *The Very Best Men: The Early Years of the CIA* (1995); *The Man to See: The Life of Edward Bennett Williams* (1991); and *The Wise Men: Six Friends and the World They Made* (with Walter Isaacson, 1986). In 2003-04, Thomas was a visiting professor at Princeton. In 2004-05, he was a visiting professor at Harvard, and in 2006-2007, he was a visiting professor at Harvard and Princeton. In the fall of 2007 he will begin a five-year term at Princeton as Ferris Professor of Journalism. He is a fellow of the Society of American Historians and a former trustee of the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression. He is a graduate of Harvard and the University of Virginia Law School. He lives with his wife and two children in Washington, D.C.

Jeff Greenfield is a veteran political, media, and culture reporter who contributes to *The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric*, *The Early Show*, *CBS News Sunday Morning* and other CBS News broadcasts, as well as CBSNews.com. Prior to his return to CBS News in May 2007, Greenfield had been senior analyst for CNN since 1998. During that time, he served as its lead analyst for its coverage of the primaries, conventions, presidential debates and election nights, as well as presidential funerals and Supreme Court confirmation hearings. Greenfield also has reported on the media, culture, and trends for the cable network. Greenfield has won three Emmy Awards, two for his reporting from South Africa and one for a profile of Ross Perot. His work has appeared in many publications, including *The New York Times Magazine*, *Harper's* and *National Lampoon*. Greenfield is the author or co-author of 11 books. His first novel, *The People’s Choice*, was a national bestseller and was named by *The New York Times Book Review* as one of the notable books of the year. His most recent book was *Oh, Waiter, One Order of Crow*, an insider's account of the contested 2000 presidential election. **
