**Jackie Calmes** joined the LA Times from The New York Times where she worked as a national correspondent covering the 2014 midterm elections. She joined the Times in August 2008, and was a White House correspondent. Previously she had been chief political correspondent for The Wall Street Journal's Washington bureau. During her 18 years at The Wall Street Journal, Ms. Calmes covered the White House and Congress, focusing mostly on budget and tax legislation, and also reported on congressional and presidential election campaigns as well as issues confronting state and local governments.

**Nicco Mele** is the director of the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy. He took over leadership of the center in 2016 after serving as senior vice president and deputy publisher of the \_Los Angeles Times\_.
