Emerson College president Lee Pelton hosts a private farewell program and reception for three extraordinary museum directors bidding Boston farewell: the Isabella Stewart Gardner's **Anne Hawley**, the Harvard Art Museum's **Thomas Lentz**, and the Museum of Fine Arts' **Malcolm Rogers**. Moderated by WGBH Arts Editor Jared Bowen, the three outgoing directors discuss their tenures in Boston, the legacy each has left the city and their exciting new directions.
Stepping down after 25 years, Anne Hawley made preservation a priority, introduced meaningful ways for visitors to engage with the Museum's collection, oversaw the addition of a new wing, reenergized the music offering, and created an artist-in-residence program to support artists much in the same manner that the Museum's beloved namesake was known to do throughout her lifetime.
Stepping down after more than a decade, Tom Lentz united the collections of the Fogg Museum, Busch-Reisinger Museum and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum into a newly designed dynamic institution- establishing a 21st century laboratory for the arts and a comprehensive experience for visitors of all ages including artists, scholars, students, faculty, and the public.
Retiring after 20 years, Malcolm Rogers is the longest-serving director in MFA history. During his tenure, Rogers has created a legacy of "opening doors" to the Boston community and global audiences. Under his leadership, the MFA underwent a transformation that includes renovation and expansion- most notably the highly acclaimed Art of the Americas Wing.
