The world experienced remarkable demographic changes in the 20th century that continue today and have resulted in far-reaching social, economic, political, and environmental consequences all over the globe. These consequences are creating mounting challenges to development efforts, security, the environment, as well as the sustainability of human populations. How will changing demographics impact the future? Join us at the Boston Public Library for our first in-person Great Decisions program since 2020! This program will simultaneously be streamed to Zoom from 6:00 to 7:00 PM ET.

Jennifer D. Sciubba (Ph.D. University of Maryland) is an internationally recognized expert in the field of demographic security. Dr. Sciubba has studied at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research and frequently advises the public and private sectors on demographics. She is the author of The Future Faces of War: Population and National Security (2011) and 8 Billion and Counting: How Sex, Death, and Migration Shape Our World (2022), and the editor of A Research Agenda for Political Demography (2021). Dr. Sciubba is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Phi Beta Kappa and of the board of the Population Reference Bureau. She is affiliated with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Environmental Change and Security Program at the Woodrow Wilson Center, and the Rising Powers Initiative at Boston University. Sciubba is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of International Studies at Rhodes College, one of the country's leading liberal arts colleges.
